Josefine
This critically acclaimed opera short film about the power of singing and dance to connect us is a Maestro Broadcasting production for Scottish Opera. Inspired by Franz Kafka’s short story 'Josephine The Singer', the animated film is directed by Antonia Bain with music composed by Samuel Bordoli, and a libretto co-authored by the pair. The soundtrack features Zoe Drummond as Josefine, a chorus of Shoalsprites, and The Orchestra of Scottish Opera, conducted by Susannah Wapshott.
Winner of the Emi Mammoliti Award for Best Short Film at the Messina Opera Film Festival in Italy, Best Animated Short at the Kaminari Film Festival in Japan, Best Family and Children, and Best Animated Short at the Mannheim Arts and Film Festival in Germany, among others.
The film has most recently been nominated for the European Short Awards in London (October 2025) and the Glasgow International Film Festival (November 2025).
